Join us on Wednesday, January 25th, 2012 at the Kanata Golf & Country Club and hear the stories of two moms who blog – one as part of her corporate role for the city’s leading news provider, examining where journalism is heading, and the other as a personal chronicle of her crazy life as a mom of two boys.

Melanie Coulson‘s life is filled with men – two boys under the age of six, a husband … even the dog is male. When she’s not at home experiencing the predictable – yet wonderful – chaos, she works as Senior Editor, Online at OttawaCitizen.com (a different, yet equally-chaotic atmosphere). She leads the newsroom’s Twitter and Facebook presence and runs the online breaking news team while focusing on multimedia features and meeting constant deadlines. While Melanie’s previous blog, Adventures of a Working Mom, is now morphing into a more community-based collaboration with guest posts by a network of community bloggers, her newest passion is Journomel, a blog examining the future direction of journalism. And just because she loves the challenge of time management, she teaches a journalism course at Carleton University…in her spare time.
In her pre-kid life, Loukia Zigoumis spent several years working in the fast-paced world of television and radio, both on-air and behind-the-scenes as a news writer. She completed an internship at CBS TV in Washington, DC and worked as an intern at Entertainment Tonight in Hollywood, CA, all while sharpening her skills as a consummate shopper. Fast-forward several years and Loukia’s Louis Vuitton is now doubling as a diaper bag. Her life is ruled by her two kids…and she’s loving it. For the past five years, she’s also been blogging about it. Her well-known blog, Loulou’s Views, touches on the many things she’s passionate about: news, entertainment, fashion and shopping, but most importantly, her life as “that” mom – the one who allows her children to sometimes eat chocolate for breakfast, the one that lets her baby walk around an airplane with nothing but a onesie on, the one who can never say no. Loukia also writes for Mom Central Canada, Urban Moms, and Yummy Mummy Club.

Childcare: Childcare will be provided by Kids & Company. Kids aged 0 – 12 years old are welcome. Listen to the speakers and engage in uninterrupted conversation while the children are supervised in a safe and fun area nearby. Babies aged 0 to 6 months (or older if you prefer) may choose to sit closer to Mom. Childcare is FREE for members; for non-members, an additional fee of $10+HST for the first child and $5+HST for each additional child will be charged (snacks included).
A portion of event proceeds will go to The Youville Centre.
